ASSOCIATION OF SHAREWARE PROFESSIONALS OMBUDSMAN STATEMENT
----------------------------------------------------------
The author of Contact Browser, Ric Moore, is a member of the
Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make
sure that the shareware principle works for you. If you are
unable to resolve a shareware-related problem with an ASP member
by contacting the member directly, ASP may be able to help. The
ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem with an
ASP member, but does not provide technical support for members'
products. Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road,
Muskegon MI 49442 or send a Compuserve message to ASP Ombudsman

===============================
Part 1: Definition of Shareware
===============================
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected
to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registra-
tion while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both
cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in
the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to
copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific
group. For example, some authors require written permission before a
commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because
you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are
low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't
use the product, you don't pay for it.
============================
Part 2: Disclaimer Agreement
============================
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of Contact Browser must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"Contact Browser is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no
liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from
the use of Contact Browser."
Contact Browser is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
find this program useful and find that you are using Contact Browser
and continue to use Contact Browser after a reasonable trial period, you
must make a registration payment of $29.95 to Moore Software Solutions.
The $29.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a book.
An example is that this software may be used by any number of people and
may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's being
used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons
at the same time.
Commercial users of Contact Browser must register and pay for their copies
of Contact Browser within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn.
Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Moore Software Solutions.
Anyone distributing Contact Browser for any kind of remuneration must first
contact Moore Software Solutions at the address below for authorization. This
authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the
(ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering Contact Browser immediately (However Moore
Software Solutions must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
up-to-date with the latest version of Contact Browser).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of Contact Browser along to your friends for
evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that
they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the latest
version of Contact Browser.
==========================
Part 3: Software Licenses
==========================
SOFTWARE LICENSES
SHAREWARE LICENSE - END USER
Contact Browser is not and has never been public domain software,
nor is it free software.
Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Contact
Browser on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining
whether the software is suitable for their needs. Any use of the
software, except for the initial 30-day trial, requires registra-
tion. The use of unlicensed copies of Contact Browser, outside of
the initial 30-day trial, by any person, business, corporation,
government agency or any other entity is strictly prohibited.
SHAREWARE LICENSE - FOR DISTRIBUTION OF SHAREWARE FILES,
USER GROUPS, BBS's, ON-LINE SERVICES, SHAREWARE VENDORS, and
OTHERS
A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Contact
Browser only for the trial use of others, subject to the following
limitations:
1) The software must be copied in unmodified form, complete
with the file containing this license information.
2) The full machine-readable documentation must be included
with each copy.
3) Contact Browser may not be distributed in conjunction with
any other product with out a specific license to do so
from Moore Software Solutions.

without prior written authorization.
5) No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested
or accepted, except as authorized below:
A) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of Contact
Browser to their members, subject to the above
conditions, without specific permission. Non-profit
groups may collect a disk duplication fee not to exceed
five dollars.
B) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
may make Contact Browser available for downloading only as
long as the above conditions are met. An overall or
time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
charge for the download of Contact Browser.
C) Vendors may distribute Contact Browser only after
obtaining written permission from Moore Software Solutions.
Such permission is usually granted. Please write for
details (enclose your catalog). Vendors may charge a

=================================
Part 7: Running the Setup Program
=================================
You will need at least 5MB of disk space to install Contact
Browser.
Turn off any virus protection utilities before starting the
installation process.
Use the Run command from Program Manager or File Manager to start
SETUP.EXE as you would any other Windows-based application. For
example, if you are installing from drive A:
1. From the File menu in Program Manager, choose Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP and
choose OK.
- Or -
> From File Manager, double-click the SETUP.EXE file
in drive A.
3. Follow the on screen instructions.
=================================
Part 8: Workstation Installations
=================================
The workstation installation provides a link from a workstation
to Contact Browser installed on a server. To establish this link:
1. Make sure Contact Browser is installed on the server.
2. From File Manager on the workstation, go to the directory on the
server in which Contact Browser was installed.
3. Double-click the WSETUP.EXE file.
4. Follow the on screen instructions.
This will create a program group and item for Contact Browser, and
sets up the ODBC INI files to establish the database connection.
==============================================
Part 9: Dot-matrix/tractor feed mailing labels
==============================================
Creating labels that print on dot-matrix or tractor-feed printers
usually requires you to adjust the page size. Label sizes other
than .5 inch or 1 inch may not fit evenly on the default 11-inch page.
Before you create mailing labels for these printers, you must first
set the default printer and paper size in Microsoft Windows Control
Panel.
Setting Default Printer/Paper Size in Control Panel
---------------------------------------------------
To set the default printer and paper size, do the following:
1. In the Printers dialog box in Control Panel, select a dot-matrix
printer, then choose the Set As Default Printer button. (If you do
not already have a dot matrix printer driver installed, you must
first install one.)
2. Choose the Setup button to display the dialog box for that printer.
3. In the Paper Size box, select User-Defined Size.
4. In the User-Defined Size dialog box, select the unit of measurement
and then type the width and the length of the mailing label page.
To determine the width, measure from the left edge of the leftmost
label to the right edge of the rightmost label. To determine the
length, measure from the top of the first label to the top of the
second label.
For example, if you use two-up labels that measure 3 inches by 5
inches (with .25 inches between), set Unit to 0.01 inches, Width to
625, and Length to 525.
5. Choose OK twice, then choose Close.
Once you have set up your default paper size for your labels, choose
Printer Setup from the File menu in Contact Browser and select User
Defined Size for the paper size.
